SUGARLOAVES ULTRA VISTA (S.U.V.) TRAIL RACES.
Sat. Feb. 2, 2013
8:10 a.m. start all races
Vado, NM (13 miles south of Las Cruces, 20 miles north of west side El Paso)
Take Vado exit (#155) off I-10 and go 2 miles east (uphill, twisty, narrow paved road) to well-marked start area.
60Km (37.5 mile)
Ultra26+ mile
5 mile
(all races between 4,040'>4,410')
***Remember that this is a trail race-- distances will be as close as possible to announced length.
After an initial 1+ mile on paved road, all races are on single-track trail and old dirt jeep roads. Surface can be rocky, sandy, gnarly. However, these trails are much more runnable and have much less climb than races in the Franklin Mountains (El Paso) or most other New Mexico trail race venues.
Scenic arroyos and canyons in the southern Rocky Mountains.
ENTRY FEE: $20 (yes, you may register on race morning)
Search & Rescue Waiver: Each runner must fill out a Search & Rescue waiver on race morning.
AID: Water, drinks, gels, crackers every 2-3 miles. Aid stations are well-stocked but self-serve.
You also pass your vehicle/ start & finish area at 5 miles/ 16 miles/ 26 miles.
AWARDS: Medals to all finishers in 60Km. Ribbons to finishers in shorter races. T-shirt.
1st and 2nd male/ female in 60Km receive either a pair of Mizuno or Saucony running shoes (two of our generous sponsors).
Other merchandise (tote bags, shirts/ etc.) from these two companies raffled off-- must be present to win.
Other prizes include gift certificates from Up And Running (two shops in El Paso), CrazyCat Cycleries (three shops in El Paso), local salsa, etc.
WEATHER: Come prepared for anything. Normal lows for this date = 30F/ Normal highs = 64F.
COURSE MARKINGS: We will do our best to have all turns marked with orange surveyors tape and signs. However, each runner is ultimately responsible for staying on course. Color course maps and detailed turn sheets given to each starter.
HANDLERS/ PACING: Even with a four-wheel drive vehicle, it is difficult for a handler or friend to meet a runner on this course. Remember that you can see each runner as they pass through the main parking area at 5 miles/ 16 miles/ 26 miles.
You may accompany a runner for the first 3/4 (three-quarters) of a mile north from the parking area, at which point the trail crosses a deep brook bed and there are signs asking for "no pacing beyond this point."
We will have roving marshalls on the course during the event.
